$2350 PER PERSON
Hosted by Olympic athlete Anna Segal
Join professional athlete and Winter Olympian Anna Segal on her mission to find the best freeride terrain in Myoko Kogen. This is a small group tour where we take a maximum of 6 guests. This tour is based in Akakura Onsen and has access to all 4 resorts in Myoko plus a backcountry day tour to a local secret spot. Myoko Kogen in Japan’s Niigata region is blessed with some of the deepest and driest snow on the main island of Japan. The proximity to Japans North West coastline ensures these big winter storms hit land and drop meters of amazing dry snow all over the Niigata and Nagano regions. Myoko has topped Japans snow totals in seasons past, so it’s not uncommon to be riding waist to chest deep snow on a regular basis! Anna Segal has been a heavy weight on the international Slopestyle scene and is now a highly regarded freeskier and adventurer so she is no stranger to finding great lines. Our local guides are on hand to offer local tips and show you to all the top secret spots. Staying in Myoko offers a fantastic opportunity to immerse yourself in a real Japanese ski town, so grab a Japanese phrase book and get ready to dine at some authentic Japanese restaurants and bars.
A typical day on tour will consist of an early rise for a group breakfast at the lodge. Your guides will meet you after breakfast and discuss the plan for the day, taking into consideration which resort will have the best conditions. We will either make the call to ride the local resort by our lodge or to make the short bus ride to the neighbouring resorts. Your guides will be on snow every day to show you around the amazing resort and sidecountry terrain on offer. You have the option of riding with the guides, breaking into your own groups, exploring the town or just relaxing in an onsen for a well earned break. Each night we’ll head into the village to eat at one of the local restaurants and after dinner there will always be tours to local bars for anyone wanting to explore the nightlife.
Anna was born and bred in Melbourne, Australia and started her skiing career in the Victorian and NSW alps. She rose through the ranks as a slopestyle athlete and has accolades such as podiums in X-Games, FIS world cup podiums and recently placed 4th in the Sochi Olympic slopestyle finals – an amazing achievement.
Since competing in the Olympics Anna has turned her talents from competing in slopestyle to freeriding and progressing the sport of skiing. Anna is now well know as a professional freeskier and adventure seeker. Anna’s passion for skiing, mountains, adventure, surf, the environment and being outdoors is as inspiring as it is contagious.

Snow & Conditions
This tour is running at the the peak of Japan’s snow season. At this time of year the Nagano and Niigata region get hammered with consistent storms that bring massive quantities of light, dry powder snow. Due to it’s close proximity to the Sea of Japan this region scores the highest annual snowfall on Japan’s main island of Honshu. Myoko has been known to top Japan’s snowfall tally, with some seasons scoring over 16 metres! With stats like this, powder is virtually guaranteed.
Our accommodation is the Akakura Park Hotel, a comfortable and centrally located Japanese hotel with modern facilities including an onsen (hot spring), drying room, free WIFI and public laundry facilities. Located only a 5 minute walk to the ski area and close to all the restaurants and bars. All rooms have western style twin share beds and all rooms are equipped with en suites. Included is breakfast daily.
Small Group Numbers
This is a small group tour where we take a maximum of 6 guests. We like to make sure our guests get the most out of your time on the mountain. There’s nothing worse than riding with a large group, especially on a powder day!
If you’re travelling solo you won’t be alone. In fact our tour is perfect for solo travellers, we just match you up with someone to room with for the entire time. Not only are our guides with you on-mountain during the day, they are located in town and will be out for Apres and dinners each night with the tour!
This tour is suitable for intermediate skiers and snowboarders. To get the most out of this tour we recommend that guests can ski and snowboard off piste. No backcountry experience is required. Our backcountry guides will provide instruction and direction.
Myoko Resort Area
Myoko is made up of four main resorts – Akakura Onsen, Akakura Kanko, Suginohara and Ikenotaira. Myoko is a lot quieter than the larger resorts, so lift lines are usually non-existent and on a powder day (which is often!) there’s lots of opportunity for freshies well into the afternoon. A shuttle bus connects all of the resorts. You can easily spend a morning riding freshies at Suginohara and spend the afternoon riding park at Ikenotaira.
Akakura Onsen & Akakura Kanko From our accommodation, you can access the two interlinked resorts of Akakura Onsen & Akakura Kanko. It is a two minute easy walk to the nearest ski lift. These areas offer an excellent variety of beginner, intermediate and advanced groomed and off-piste terrain across the two resorts.
Ikenotaira Home to groomed slopes with rolling terrain, as well as three terrain parks. Suitable for beginner to intermediate riders or if you’re up for hitting the park, it’s suitable for intermediate to advanced riders.
Suginohara With Japan’s longest run at 8.5 km, long wide groomers for carving, a huge terrain park and steep ungroomed slopes at the top of the mountain, Suginohara has some of the best terrain in the area. Suitable for intermediate and advanced riders. Be sure to look out for the Snow Monkeys on the drive to ‘Sugi’.
Seki Onsen This secret little gem is not part of the main Myoko Resort and on first glance looks like every other semi-closed down ski resort in Japan. Don’t let this fool you though, this place with it’s unique location often scores 70-100% more snowfall than the other Myoko resorts! The old school double chair and single ‘meat-hook’ chair gains you access to some epic short and steep terrain. Most people attribute their best days in Japan to Seki Onsen, when this place turns on it’s absolutely on!
