1 DAY HELI-SKIING MT COOK
Heli-skiing at Mount Cook is unique as it has more advanced-level terrain, the most consistent snow quality, the deepest snowpack and the highest landings than any other heli-ski operation in New Zealand. Its truly worthy of your bucket list. The heli-ski area is a wilderness of ancient glaciers, blue lakes, and endless runs across 6 mountain ranges. From exclusive tenure at Aoraki Mount Cook National Park, to the Ben Ohau Range above Lake Pukaki.
1 DAY HELI-SKIING METHVEN
We’ll spend a day riding big mountain lines in the Arrowsmith or Ragged ranges. These ranges are located at the headwaters of the Rakaia and Rangitata Rivers and catch snow from every winter storm to deliver some of New Zealand’s most consistent heli-ski conditions. The terrain here demands the best and most experienced heli-ski guides in the business. We will fly with small groups where the focus is on safety, and great Kiwi service.
1 DAY SNOWBOARDING MT OLYMPUS
Kiwi club fields don’t get more legendary than Mt Olympus. The terrain is amazing, the access road an adventure, the coffee is good and it boasts the highest hot tub. The rope tows here are nestled within a high, south-facing basin which is the ideal aspect for catching snowfall from the big southerly storms. The ski area is proudly groomer free so ensure you take the correct weapon from your quiver. There are steep cliffs and chutes, along with fun rolling terrain.
1 DAY SNOWBOARDING MT HUTT
Rising high above the Canterbury Plains is Mt Hutt. At an altitude of 2086m with a 683 vertical drop Mt Hutt has the South Island’s highest chairlift, leg-burning runs and some of the country’s most spectacular views. Most days at the summit you can see from one side of the country to the other, from the jagged spine of the Southern Alps to the West, right across the patchwork of pastures to the Pacific Ocean on the East. The shape of Mt Hutt is great for catching snow, and with its high elevation, the area typically gets more snowfall than some of its southerly neighbours. The runs have a good fall-line and if we're lucky enough to ride after new snow, it can be like an epic heli-ski run.
PRIVATE LODGING WITH MEALS
Our base for this tour is a private purpose-built lodge that's designed to offer our guests quality single-share, ensuite rooms in comfortable surroundings that reflect the local Canterbury landscape. Start the day off with cooked breakfasts, and relax after a big day on the mountain with a local craft beer by the fire. Each evening we sit down to a home cooked meal including locally sourced ingredients like Canterbury beef, lamb or salmon washed down with a glass (or bottle) of South Island wine.
SNOW AND CONDITIONS
This tour runs during peak heli-ski season as conditions are at their optimum. The vast terrain spans numerous mountain ranges which are affected differently by prevailing snow and weather conditions. It is these variations that allow us to ski or snowboard many aspects ensuring powder snow each day.
