Often referred to as the Aspen of Japan, Appi Kogen is one of the best quality resorts on Honshu. With it’s first class facilities, grand hotels, and impeccable grooming (perfect for laying high speed carves!), Appi is definitely worth the trek. Only 3 hours from Tokyo via bullet train, Appi boasts super long pistes (up to 5.5kms!), epic fall-line runs, a nearby cat-ski operation, and being located in the North-Western region of Tohoku, scores bucket loads of light, dry snow (an average of 8 metres of powder each year!). It’s surprising that it has remained relatively unknown over recent years! A playground for snowboarders, Appi is also home to some of the best freeride terrain in the region, with a terrain park entirely redeveloped by Salomon Snowboard team, and perfectly crafted waves and banks. Take a day trip to Hakkoda and experience the world-famous “Snow Monsters” whilst making some memorable off-piste powder turns, or experience traditional villages (and Sake breweries) in Hachimantai.
