From the high Andes of Valle Nevado to the volcanic Nevados de Chillan

Our tour starts in Santiago, the capital of Chile. From here we travel south via to Nevados de Chillan with a stop along the way in the wine region. The resort ‘Chillan’ is situated on an active volcano and the peaks here have a unique typography. You’ll see steaming vents from the chairlift, rolling gullies, sharp pinnacles and exposed, jagged ridgelines. The resort has plenty of friendly terrain from top to bottom. There’s trees, bowls, gullies, natural half pipes and hits and plenty of  fun groomed runs. You’ll spend 4 days riding at Chillan with Mint’s local guide who will show you the zones and places you wouldn’t necessarily find on your own. And if you happen to score a storm at Chillan (which is likely), there’s not much powder panic. The Chileans take their time with everything, even on a pow day. In Chillan, you’ll stay on-mountain at the deluxe Termas Chillan for 5 nights. This is an all-inclusive 4-star, ski-in & out hotel that’s at the base of the resort with gourmet breakfast, lunch and dinner included at the hotel. Plus you’ll have access to the slopeside hot pools, spa, wellness centre, gear storage, wine bar, drying room and a snowboard shop on-site.

From Nevados de Chillan we drive north back to Santiago for the final two nights. We’ll day trip to Valle Nevado, nestled atop 55 switchback turns and at 10,000 feet above sea level. Expect spectacular Andean views and dry snow thanks to its high altitude. You’ll spend a day exploring the resort with our local guide. In Santiago you’ll stay in Vitacura, a vibrant and cosmopolitan neighborhood, with a mix of modern and colonial architecture, burgeoning arts scene and top-of-the-range restaurants, framed by the snowcapped peaks of the Andes. After a big week of touring through Chile, we transfer back to Santiago Airport where our tour concludes.

WHY VISIT CHILE

Why should Chile be on your snowboarding bucket list? The terrain is top notch, the locals friendly, the food distinctive, and the culture unique. Though Chile may seem out of reach without a dedicated travel budget, it’s worth a bit of planning and saving to make it happen. It's the type of place you can spend one week or an entire winter.

VALLE NEVADO

Valle Nevado resort is entirely above tree line and is a mix of cruisy groomed runs, natural, rolling terrain, gullies and easy off-piste access. The resort’s off-piste areas (including chutes and bowls) are filled with blower powder after a snow storm.

NEVADOS DE CHILLAN

Located in the southern Andes on the slopes of the Chillán volcano, Nevados de Chillan offers incredible natural terrain, beautiful views and amazing thermal hot springs. We connect with the locals to ride some of Chillan's secret spots, something you wouldn't experience if traveling here solo.

SANTIAGO

You'll spend two nights staying in the Vitacura area of Sanitago. A cosmopolitan area with beautiful architecture and great restaurants. If you have extra time, we recommend arriving a day or two before the tour starts so you can shake off the jet lag and explore Santiago’s street art, museums, architecture and food scene.

SNOW & CONDITIONS

This tour is running at one of the best times to experience riding in Chile. You can still expect to get regular snowfall, with temperatures rarely getting above 0 degrees Celsius. Even if we don’t get fresh snow overnight, our local guides will ensure you’ll be able to enjoy your time on and off the mountain.

SMALL GROUPS

We offer one of the smallest client to guide ratio’s in the industry which ultimately leads to a better experience for everyone. Our small groups allow greater manouverability and ease of access to the best areas a destination can offer. This also makes for a more personal experience between our guests and guides.

Itinerary

AUGUST 26 – Arrival day

Welcome to Chile! Our tour starts at Santiago Airport with an early morning pick up. From here we travel south to Nevados de Chillan, with a lunch stop along the way in the wine region where you can enjoy your first Chilean meal and some local wine. Then it’s back on the road as we head for ‘Chillan’ – one of South America’s best freeriding resorts situated on an active volcano. On arrival check in to the deluxe Termas de Chillan for the next 5 nights. This is an all-inclusive 4-star, ski-in/out hotel that’s at the base of the resort with gourmet breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Plus you’ll have access to the slopeside hot pools, spa, wellness centre, gear storage, drying room and a snowboard shop on-site. You’ll have some free time to get settled, then enjoy dinner with the crew at the hotel.

AUGUST 27 to 30 – Ride Chillan

You’ll spend the next 4 days riding at Nevados de Chillan with Mint’s local snowboard guide Trompo. The peaks here have a unique typography. You’ll see steaming vents from the chairlift, rolling gullies, sharp pinnacles and exposed, jagged ridgelines. The resort has plenty of friendly inbound freeriding options from top to bottom. There’s trees, bowls, gullies, natural half pipes, and loads of natural hits that are easy to spot from the chairlift. Mint’s local guide who will show you the zones and places you wouldn’t necessarily find on your own. Think hidden stashes and untouched lines. And if you happen to score a storm at Chillan (which is likely), there’s not much powder panic. The Chileans take their time with everything, even on a pow day.

Each day will follow a similar format:

Mornings – Enjoy the breakfast buffet at your leisure. Your guide will advise the departure time the evening before which is typically around 9 am. Step outside your hotel and ride to the chairlift. Each morning your guide will make a plan according to the weather and snow conditions. There’s plenty of options, so your guide will keep a sharp eye on the weather so we can find you the best snow daily.

Throughout the day – The aim is to spend a full day on-mountain. Your guide will take the guess-work out of it and give you a locals perspective from day one. Be the first into the trees and hit the secret powder stashes and clock up the vertical with some top to bottom groomer laps. Lunch is included and is served at the hotel.

Afternoons – After riding, you have free time. Your hotel has great facilities, including indoor and outdoor slope-side hot springs and wellness center complete with sauna, spa, massage, steam rooms and gym. It’s a great way to relax after a long day on-mountain.

Evenings – Meet up with the crew at the hotel bar before dinner. Gourmet dinners are included throughout the week and the group will catch up over dinner to share a few stories about the days’ turns over some delicious food.

AUGUST 31 – Drive to Santiago

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and drive from Chillan to Santiago. We’ll stop for lunch along the way, before arriving at your hotel in Vitacura. You’ll spend the next 2 nights staying in this vibrant and cosmopolitan neighborhood, with a mix of modern and colonial architecture, burgeoning arts scene and top-of-the-range restaurants, framed by the snow capped peaks of the Andes. After checking in, if the weather is good, we might opt to hit a rooftop bar for sunset with incredible views to the Andes mountains. In the evening, join the crew for a delicious dinner at one of your local guides favorite spots.

SEPTEMBER 1 – Ride Valle Nevado

After breakfast, we’ll set off for a day trip to the highest resort in Chile, Valle Nevado. Nestled atop 55 switchback turns and at 10,000 feet above sea level in the Tres Valles region of the Chilean Andes. Expect spectacular Andean views and dry snow thanks to its high altitude, southern orientation and the resort’s extensive snowmaking system. The resort is one giant playground full of natural features – wind lips, cornices, gullies, and more. Spend the day here riding the resort with our local snowboard guide Arnau. During the day you’ll have the opportunity to stop on the mountain for lunch at a traditional BBQ. After riding, head down the mountain and back to Santiago for our final night in town. We head out for dinner at one of the best restaurants in Santiago for an unforgettable meal to celebrate our final night.

SEPTEMBER 2 – Departure day

This morning is your final day. After breakfast, check out of the hotel and your guide will transfer you back to the airport for your return home.
