OVERVIEW
Shiga Kogen is situated in the heart of the Johshinetsu Kogen National Park, and is by far the largest ski resort in Japan, with 21 interlinked resorts all on one lift ticket! Shiga covers a huge area and offers a great diversity of natural terrain.

Shiga Kogen hosted a variety of events in the 1998 Winter Olympics including the women’s downhill, slalom, the super Giant slalom and both snowboarding events. Snow conditions and quality are superb and Shiga has one of the longest seasons in Japan due to its high altitude. The extensive lift network enables skiers and snowboarders to easily move around from one resort to the next. A shuttle bus system running non-stop between resorts can also be used for getting between resorts. To actually ski all the runs it would take you days. Yakebitaiyama is the most modern of all the resorts at Shiga and offers customers, fantastic facilities, fast lifts and a great variety of terrain. Yakebitai and the adjoining resort Okushiga are a pleasure to ski, with many wide long runs as well as some great tree skiing.

ACCOMMODATION
Shiga Kogen is an interesting ski resort in terms of its unique layout; a long winding road weaves through the ski resorts, with ski-in/ski-out hotels dotted along the way. Rather than an accumulation of  buildings in the form of a village, the solitary hotels tend to cater to  all guests needs – breakfast, dinner, hot springs and some form of entertainment. If one were to specify an area as the main village, it would be Ichinose area, a wide open area with a number of hotels, and a scattering of restaurants. Most hotels in Ichinose area cater to the budget travelers, with both Japanese and Western styles available.

Ichinose Village is the best and most central location in Shiga Kogen to be based. Within Ichinose Village a good variety of accommodation is available, situated by the slopes and offering comfortable lodging with great access to a number of restaurants. For the most exclusive and intimate lodging at Shiga Kogen the Grand Phenix Hotel and Okushiga Kogen Hotel situated on the slopes of Oku-shiga are the properties of choice.

Shiga Prince has three wings: East, South and  West, with an interconnecting shuttle for Prince guests to share each wings facilities.

Finally, if you are  looking for a high quality ski resort hotel, Okushiga Kogen Hotel and Grand Phenix Hotel are your best picks. Both offer top quality service, fireplace lounges, and a number of dining options.
