Panorama Mountain Resort
We warm-up riding at Panorama. To kick off the tour we spend a full day riding with one of the local female coaches at Panorama. They will be on-hand to show us all their secret spots, and give us a few tips along the way. In Panorama we stay on-mountain in our luxury ski-in, ski-out condo, just steps away from the chairlift. Not only do we love the friendly ski-in/ski-out village vibe, ‘Pano’ has some of the longest fall-line groomers in Canada, powder-filled tree runs, Canada’s largest slope-side hot pools and the real highlight is Taynton Bowl, over 700 acres of patrolled ex-heli ski terrain. Powder heaven!
Rossland & Red Mountain
Next stop Rossland and Red Mountain. After leaving Panorama, we make a short stop off at Radium Hot Springs for a visit to their outdoor hot pools. After a soak in the thermal springs we get back on the road and head toward Rossland. Once we arrive we check in to our hotel and then we’ve got the afternoon free to explore the town. Rossland is a great mountain town and is rated as one of the coolest ski towns in North America. The real highlight here is the riding. We spend a full day getting coached by legend kiwi rider and ex-Winter Olympic coach and Red Mountain local Rachel Newton. Get your freeride skills dialled while exploring ‘Red’. The terrain here is amazing and offers steeps, open trees, powder meadows and groomers on 360-degrees of exposure. Then to top it all off we load up the cat and spend a full day Cat Skiing in Red Mountain’s epic backcountry. Our cat ski day is geared towards intermediate riders and our guides will get us lapping untouched runs all day long. The cat ski operation in Red has access to 8 mountains offering 19,300 acres of some of the best gladed tree riding in the world. Your guides are fully qualified and experienced to keep you safe while still scoring the best turns of your life. After riding we head back to our hotel, kick back in the spa, and then it’s time to check out one of the best local restaurants in town and then maybe a few drinks at the local pub.
We then head to Revelstoke via car Ferry on Arrow Lake. The drive to Revelstoke is breathtaking, so keep your camera handy. Once we’re at Revy we check in to our own private lodge, Valley Retreat. We then head out for dinner at one of our favourite local pub’s, Big Eddy’s. Next day we are up early and head to the hill for a full day of guiding with one of Revelstoke’s professional mountain guides. Want to know where the best lines in Greely Bowl are? Looking to discover more of the mountain’s amazing cruisers? Our guide will take us anywhere we want to go within boundaries of the resort. After riding we can relax in our private hot tub overlooking the mountains. Epic!
Sun Peaks is our fourth and final stop and we can’t wait to get here. This ski-in/ski-out mountain village has the second largest skiable area in Canada, sitting just behind Whistler. The resort has 130+ runs and 882 metres of vertical. The real highlight here is the lack of crowds. You can’t help feeling that you have the slopes all to yourself. Terrain is varied but mostly geared towards intermediate riders with lots of long mellow groomed runs, open bowls, gladed tree runs as well as a few steeps. While we’re at Sun Peaks we spend 2 full days riding and take the opportunity to spend a full day exploring beyond the resort boundaries with a fully guided backcountry day. We have a private tour of Sun Peaks’ legendary backcountry with a certified guide and instructor. We’ll learn the safest routes, best lines, and local secrets while improving our technique in Sun Peaks’ famous dry powder. Other than snowboarding, Sun Peaks activities include nordic skiing, snow shoeing, or you can enjoy a relaxing treatment at the day spa.
Day 1 – Arrival Day
Our Mint Chicks guide will meet the group at Calgary Airport. Once everyone has arrived, we head off and begin our epic roadtrip along ‘The Powder Highway’ and make our way to Panorama Mountain Resort. Getting to Panorama is easy. Roads are well maintained and our trip from Calgary is about 4 hours. Along the way you will be introduced the amazing scenery as our drive takes us out of Alberta and into BC’s Purcell Mountains. We make a quick stop off in Banff along the way to fuel up and pick up any last minute supplies. On arrival at Panorama we check in and get settled in to our accommodation for the next 3 nights. We start off the tour in style, staying in ski-in/ski-out condo’s, just steps away from the main chairlift.
Day 2 & 3 – Panorama Mountain Resort
- Spend 2 days riding long cruisy groomers & powder filled tree runs
- First day on-snow riding with snowboard coach & guide
- Stay on mountain in ski-in/ski-out accommodation
- Soak in Canada’s largest slopeside hot pools
- Heliski day option suitable for intermediate to advanced riders
We kick off our tour at Panorama. ‘Pano’ been a stop on our Canada Snowboard Tours for the past 5 years for a very good reason. Not only do we love the friendly ski-in/ ski-out village vibe where everything is within easy reach, we love Panorama for having some of the longest fall-line groomers in Canada plus powder-filled tree runs. Pano is also home to Canada’s largest slope side hot pools which are just steps away from our hotel. It’s the perfect way to relax after a long day riding. Weather wise, ‘Pano’ scores warm westerly winds from the Pacific that create a climate in the Kootenay’s that is capable of producing more powder snow than any of the other Rocky Mountain resorts. We spend 2 days riding here checking out everything that’s on offer. We’ve also lined up a special experience while we’re at Pano, for our first day on snow you’ll get to ride with one of the local instructors who’ll guide us around the mountain and show us all her favourite lines, where to find the best powder stashes and give us a few tips along the way to tackle the Canadian terrain.
For those feeling like a rockstar we highly recommend a day out heli-boarding with RK Heliski which is based at the resort. RK Heli has some of the highest skiable heli terrain in Canada meaning the snow stays cold and dry. Their 3 Run Powder Package is suitable for beginner to intermediate heli-skiers. If you have dreamed of heli-skiing and can ride a blue run, you’re set! If it turns out that 3 runs are not enough, extra runs are available! Prices starting at CAD $889 per person
Radium Hot Springs
On departure day we pack up the van and head to the Village of Radium Hot Springs. After a leisurely drive through the awe-inspiring Kootenay National Park we will arrive at the world famous Radium Hot Springs Mineral Pools. These odorless hot pools are surrounded by natural rock walls, and are guaranteed to soak away any soreness.
Local Hockey Game
For anyone looking to get involved in the local scene we can take the shuttle down to the nearby town of Invermere and check out one of the local hockey league games.
Day 4 – Transfer from Panorama to Red Mountain
We say goodbye to Panorama and travel southwest along the Powder Highway to the ski town of Rossland. The trip takes about 5 hours and there is plenty of opportunity for photo op’s along the way. Rossland is located high in the Monashee Mountain ranges and is our base while checking out Red Mountain. We spend 4 nights in Rossland staying at the Prestige Mountain Resort. The modern hotel has everything you want for a mountain escape, amazing views, hot tub, sauna and comfy queens size beds. We’ve got Rossland’s restaurants and bar’s all within a short walk of our hotel, so après is always on!
Day 5 to 7 – Red Mountain
- Riding some of the best tree runs on the planet
- Full day of snowboard coaching with winter olympian, Rachel Newton
- Full day cat ski tour with Big Red Cats
- Optional backcountry day tour
From Rossland, Red Mountain is just a short 15 minute drive, so we jump in the Red shuttle and head to the hill. We have a full day riding at Red Mountain and we’re excited to have one of our good friends Rachel Newton joining us. Rach is an ex-professional snowboarder, World Cup athlete and to top it off has been the coach for the NZ National Snowboard Team. Originally hailing from New Zealand, Rach now calls Red Mountain home and currently juggles motherhood with coaching the regional snowboard team at Red! She’s also a massive advocate for getting women involved in snowboarding at all levels, so we couldn’t think of anyone better or more fun to show the Mint Chicks around. Rach is on-board to show us around her local hill, plus she’s going to be giving us coaching tip’s and feedback to keep us shredding strong. So what’s the terrain like at Red you ask? We’ll, we’d have to say it has some of the best terrain on the planet! There are looong wide-open groomed runs, epic vertical, in-bounds cat-skiing, 360 degree descents off select peaks, and some of the best tree riding in the world. We cannot wait to get there with the Mint Chicks and start exploring.
Cat Ski Day
Another highlight at Red is spending a full day Cat Skiing with Big Red Cats on their Intermediate Cat Ski Day. This is a great first step to riding backcountry powder. The runs that we’ll ride are normally in the 20 degree range. There is very little risk of an avalanche, so you’ll feel really comfortable quickly. This is a great level to do if you have not had much powder riding experience. Perfect for intermediate riders who like it deep, but not so steep! The guides will give you some helpful powder riding hints and a helpful hand when you fall, and we introduce you to tree-riding gradually. The intermediate tour is perfect for us, the natural beauty is the same, the camaraderie is the same, but there is no pressure to keep up with the advanced group, so you can enjoy the day at YOUR pace!
Optional Backcountry Day
Bring your backcountry kit and head out beyond the resort boundaries. If conditions allow, our local legend lady shredder Rachel Newton will take us out for a tour to explore some of Red’s backcountry huts. Or if weather permits we can head out even deeper into the wilderness for a backcountry hike into the local pass and ride untouched backcountry lines. This is suitable for confident intermediate to advanced riders with powder riding experience.
Day 8 – Transfer to Revelstoke
We check out of our accommodation, load up the van and make the journey to Revelstoke. This is one of the most scenic parts of the trip so keep your camera handy. We’ll be staying at the best accommodation in town, Revelstoke Valley Retreat and we’ve booked out the whole lodge especially for the Mint Chicks crew. Rooms are perfectly appointed and include organic toiletries and mountain views. We’re also treated to fresh organic breakfast daily with vegan options, we’ve got our own private hot tub with mountain views in the backyard, a lounge and chill out area stocked with snowboard movies and a tune room and drying room. Once we’ve settled in, we’ll head out for dinner at one of our favourite local pub’s, Big Eddy’s. They serve up some good ol’ Canadian fare and it’s also a great place to meet the down to earth locals.
Day 9 to 10 – Revelstoke
- 2 days riding Revelstoke’s deep powder, bowls & tree runs
- Spend a full day riding with a local Revelstoke mountain guide
- Staying in our own private luxury lodge
We’ve got 2 days riding at Revelstoke. This resort has earned is legendary status thanks to it’s snowfall, the vertical and it’s size. The resort scores 14+ metres of snow each season. Plus the resort is seriously big. Big terrain, big pitch, and big vertical with the longest vertical in North America. The terrain below the treeline consists of super long steep groomers, mellow groomed runs, and tree riding. For anyone wanting to put in a little work, we can head above the treeline with the promise of scoring some of the best turns of your life. For our first day on-snow we head out for a full day of guiding with one of Revelstoke’s professional mountain guides. Want to know where the best lines in Greely Bowl are? Looking to discover more of the mountain’s amazing cruisers? Our guide will take us anywhere we want to go within boundaries of the resort. While we’re in Revy we also have the opportunity to visit our good friends at Trapper Snowboards. These guys handcraft beautiful snowboards right from their factory in Revelstoke. Demo’s can be arranged for anyone wanting to test ride their shapes. The unassuming town of Revelstoke is also home to some seriously good restaurants which we’ll be sure to explore. It’s also St Patricks Day while we’re in Revy, so for anyone wanting to drink some green beer and party with the locals there a few late night venues to visit.
