Heli-Ski in Alaska with the Mint Chicks
We’re bringing together a group of like minded women for a week-long trip of heli-skiing and snowboarding in Alaska. There is nowhere else in the world that can come close to the experience of skiing or snowboarding in Alaska. We will have access to thousands of square miles of terrain. Whether you are a first time heli skier or a savvy veteran, your mind will be blown by the mountains and the snow quality. There is a huge amount of terrain that we can access and our guides know how to find whatever it is that you are looking for, ensuring that every guest is smiling. We’ll be able to choose from open bowls, spines, low-angle powder, ramps, couloirs, long glacier runs, and Alaskan steep faces. We’ll ride primarily in alpine terrain (no trees) and on glaciers. The scale, vastness and beauty of Alaska is awe-inspiring. The terrain we ride will suit the ability level and pace of our group. Our goal is to find the best powder you have ever experienced. There are no groomed runs here, all of the riding is in the backcountry and provided by Mother Nature. We aim to ride untracked snow on every run.
If you’re a confident, intermediate rider, then you can heli-ski
Join us as we tour through Alaska with our experienced guides. We kick off our tour in Anchorage, and head to Alyeska Resort. The terrain in Alyeska is the perfect place to warm-up before heli-skiing. We spend our first 2 days riding the resort with our Mint guides. The resort has some some of the best in-bounds terrain in North America and scores some serious snowfall. You’ll be able to warm up the legs and clock up some serious vertical while riding Alyeska. Of course the highlight of this tour is three days’ heli-skiing. We then head to our luxury heli-ski lodge in the Majestic Valley. For 3 full days we will heli-ski the iconic lines of the famous Chugach and Talkeetna Mountains. Each day we’ll head out with our professional heli-guides to ride incredible open bowls and long glacier runs, racking up over 30,000 feet of vertical. Throughout the trip we stay in luxury twin share accommodation, including the Majestic Valley Wilderness Lodge. We’ve got the heli pad out the front and the hot tub out the back, ready for us to kick back with a few cocktails after scoring the best lines of our life.
There is nowhere else in the world that can come close to the experience of skiing or snowboarding in Alaska. Our heli partner Majestic Heli Ski operates in the Chugach and the Talkeetna Mountains and has access to thousands of square miles of terrain. Whether you are a first time heli skier or a savvy veteran, your mind will be blown by the mountains and the snow quality. There is a huge amount of terrain that we can access and the Majestic Heli-ski guides know how to find whatever it is that you are looking for, ensuring that every guest is smiling.
With all that terrain available, a lack of good powder is rarely an issue. We’ll be able to choose from open bowls, spines, low-angle powder, ramps, couloirs, long glacier runs, and Alaskan steep faces. We’ll ride primarily in alpine terrain (no trees) and on glaciers. Vertical descents range from 1,000 feet to 4,500 feet (305 meters to 1372 meters) or more. The elevation band we spend most of our time skiing is typically between 2500 feet (762 meters) and 8500 feet (2590 meters).
The scale, vastness and beauty of Alaska is awe-inspiring. The terrain we ride will suit the ability level and pace of your group. Our goal is to find the best powder skiing you have ever experienced. There are no groomed runs here, all of the riding is in the backcountry and provided by Mother Nature. We aim to ride untracked snow on every run.
You don’t have to be an expert to heli-ski.
Contrary to popular belief you do not have to be a professional, or even an expert to enjoy heli skiing or heli boarding. We cater to intermediate through expert skiers and riders and welcome first timers. All you need is a good attitude, respect for the mountains, and be of intermediate or better ability. Our goal is to find you the best untracked powder that you have ever experienced and to make sure that everyone has a great time doing it! The terrain we ski will suit the ability level and pace of your group. We tailor our groups to meet each person’s needs, understanding that the definition of fun can vary from person to person. Prior experience riding in powder is helpful but not necessary. A level of personal fitness will definitely help you get the most out of your trip.
The heli ski season in Alaska runs from the start of February to the end of April – it’s a pretty short season, mainly due to the lack of daylight hours early in the year. Early April is prime time, as the days are longer, giving you more opportunities to heli ski, and the temperatures are still relatively cold with regular snowfall. So essentially you can strike a balance between daylight, conditions and snowpack stability.
Our heli partner, Majestic Heliski are dedicated to providing cutting edge safety standards and require that all guests and guides use an avalanche airbag backpack (included). All guests are provided with a harness, carabiner, avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe. Instruction in the competent and efficient use of all safety equipment is included.
Day 1 – Arrival Day
Meet and greet at Anchorage Airport and private transfer to Girdwood. This small mountain town is nestled among lush forest and surrounded by the peaks of the famous Chugach Mountain Range. After settling in to our ski-in/ski-out accommodation at the Alyeska Resort, head out to explore the town and get to know your new shred buddies over a beer and some Alaskan-syle BBQ grill!
Day 2 & 3 – Riding at Alyeska Resort
We spend our first two days riding at Alyeska Resort, home to over 650 inches of snowfall annually, and some of the best steep and deep terrain in the world! Alyeska has some of the most insane in-bounds terrain we have ever seen and it’s the perfect warm-up to our heli-ski days. This resort is truly a playground for snowboarders of all riding abilities, with perfectly groomed tree-lined runs, wide open powder bowls, and long top-to-bottom runs with loads of natural features for the freestyle rider. Catch the aerial tram up the hill and head to the Lower bowl, the perfect spot for making sweet powder slashes, or give your riding skills the ultimate test on the infamous North Face, featuring North America’s longest continuous double black run. There is so much terrain to explore during these first few days of riding. At night, check out the bars and pubs of Girdwood, or relax back at the resort and take in the incredible view of the surrounding Chugach mountains.
Day 4 – Transfer to Majestic Valley
From Girdwood, we drive an easy two hours along the Glenn Highway through the picturesque Matanuska Valley, finally stopping at the luxurious Majestic Valley Wilderness Lodge. Our home for the next three nights, this remote lodge has everything we need for the ultimate heli-ski adventure; from outdoor hot tubs and full service bar, to heli pick-up right outside the door. Enjoy the breathtaking scenery and watch the Northern Lights dance in the night sky from the deck, or scope out your dream lines for the next day.
Day 5 -7 – Heli-ski
Get ready to spend the next three days experiencing some of the best powder snowboarding in the world! The Chugach and Talkeetna Mountains of Alaska are epic… home to incredible terrain from open bowls and spines, to steep faces and long glacier runs. We make over 30,000 feet of vertical descents, and with no trees, it means you can make those perfect powder turns. These fully guided heli days are aimed at finding the best powder and provide the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself in the safest possible way. All riders take part in orientation and avalanche training on the first day, and are provided with complete avalanche safety gear including airbag backpack, transceiver, shovel, and probe. With thousands of square miles of terrain, you’re guaranteed some incredible bucket-list worthy powder turns that will put a smile on your face for the rest of the trip! On our last heli day, we bid farewell to the Alaskan backcountry and make our way back to Anchorage. We spend our final night out on the town sharing epic shred stories and partying the night away.
Day 8 – Departure Day
On our final day we transfer you back to Anchorage Airport, where we bid you farewell with high fives and new shred buddies. WARNING: This trip will have you wanting to come back to this part of the world for more epic heli turns soon!
