About Myoko Kogen
Myoko-Kogen is a monster of a resort with 4 ski areas spread out across this 2,454m volcano. Each resort has it’s own different terrain and scores varying amounts of snow depending on the type of storm. It’s not uncommon to get 60cm at one resort and only 10cm at another, so make sure you speak to your guides to get the hot tip on where the snow will fall! Akakura-Onsen is home to some mellow terrain with a few secret powder stashes that usually lay untouched all day. Akakura-Kanko is our favourite for a powder day with steep terrain, tree runs and plenty of secret spots. Ikenotaira has some great park features for all ability levels. Suginohara is home to Japan’s longest groomed run, a leg burning 8.5km, and also has some steeps, trees and a huge terrain park. There really is something for everyone at this resort!
About Yuki Daruma Kogen
Yuki Daruma Kogen is located in the Niigata region of Japan. Surrounded by big names like Myoko, Nozawa Onsen and Madarao it’s no surprise that this place scores amazing snow like it’s bigger siblings. The resort itself is quite small but when you consider that you don’t need to share the powder with anyone else it immediately feels bigger! This place is well and truly off the main tourist map and we will use a local guide to take us out to all the untracked riding just outside the resort boundaries.
All accommodation is twin share. For this tour we will spend our first 5 nights at Akarien Lodge in Myoko. This classic Japanese hotel is located in the centre of town and is a 5 minute walk to the ski lifts. Rooms are Japanese style – a great cultural experience for any first timer to Japan! The hotel also has Onsen (natural hot spring). Included is a Western and Japanese breakfast each morning. There are plenty of restaurants and bars within a couple minutes walk from the hotel. In Yuki Daruma we stay in great little log cabins on the mountain. These are Western style rooms with ensuite. Included is breakfast and dinner while at Yuki Daruma.
