Myoko Powder Tour
9 Nights I 7 Days riding
December 29, 2016 to January 07, 2017
$2150 PER PERSON
Ride deep Japan pow, check out the region’s best terrain parks and experience the local culture and snowboarding scene with the Mint crew leading the way. Included on this tour is 7 days riding at 5 different resorts on the enormous Mt Myoko-san. This tour is running at the peak of Japan’s snow season, so be prepared. The consistent storms bring massive quantities of light, dry powder snow to this region. Your guides on this tour have an in depth knowledge of the areas we ride and will be able to find any type of terrain to suit your ability – whether that be riding mellow tree runs in powder or hucking drops and pillows into steep chutes. Being a quieter and less developed resort means we can usually still find deep powder stashes days after a storm. If weather permits we will head out to Seki Onsen, this place is renowned for scoring more snow than pretty much anywhere else in the area and if a big storms rolls in and hits Myoko you can expect to get waist-deep, sometimes neck-deep, turns in this freeriding powder magnet! The village in Myoko is small but has everything you could need in a small ski town from rental stores to great local bars and restaurants. This tour is fully guided and hosted by Mint tours staff.

Mint Tours Guides
Your guides on tour are dedicated snowboarders who have spent most of their lives chasing winters around the world. With an in-depth knowledge of the local area and terrain you can be assured we will always find you the best snow conditions available. Our goal is to get everybody on tour enjoying themselves and pushing your riding in a relaxed and fun environment.
Small Group Numbers
Unlike other snowboard tours and camps we keep our group sizes small so you can get the most out of your time with us. There’s nothing worse than riding with a large group, especially on a powder day! We have our coaches and guides on-snow every day. At night we’ll have our hosts on hand to show you around the local area. With a maximum group size of 14 people you’ll feel like part of the Mint Crew and not just another face in the crowd.
Optional Backcountry Day
Myoko offers amazing backcountry terrain. Advanced riders may opt to add a fully guided backcountry day on request. Rental backcountry equipment is available to rent.
Unlimited Access to Powder Boards
All Mint Tours guests in Myoko get exclusive access to our demo fleet of powder boards from the Nitro Snowboards 2016/17 range.
If you’re travelling solo you won’t be alone. In fact our tour is perfect for solo travellers, we just match you up with someone to room with for the entire time. Not only are our guides with you on-mountain during the day, they keep the stoke going well into the night, so you’ll always have crew to hang out with and places to go.
A typical day on tour will consist of an early rise for a group breakfast at the lodge. We’ll discuss the plan for the day, taking into consideration which resort will have the best conditions. We will either make the call to ride the local resort by our lodge or to make the short bus ride to the neighboring resorts. If conditions look optimal we will drive over to Seki Onsen resort for a day of freeriding in one of our personal favourite places to ride in Japan. In Myoko we’ll have freeride sessions, trick tip’s, park sessions and demo’s. Our Mint guides will be riding with the group every day to help find the best snow and terrain to best suit everyone. You have the option of riding with the guides, breaking into your own groups, exploring the town or just relaxing in an onsen for a well earned break. Each night we’ll head into the village to eat at one of the local restaurants and after dinner there will always be tours to local bars for anyone wanting to explore the nightlife.
Snow & Conditions
This tour is running at the the peak of Japan’s snow season. At this time of year the Nagano and Niigata region get hammered with consistent storms that bring massive quantities of light, dry powder snow. Due to it’s close proximity to the Sea of Japan this region scores the highest annual snowfall on Japan’s main island of Honshu. Myoko has been known to top Japan’s snowfall tally, with some seasons scoring over 16 metres! With stats like this, powder is virtually guaranteed.
Myoko Resort Area
Myoko is made up of four main resorts – Akakura Onsen, Akakura Kanko, Suginohara and Ikenotaira. Myoko is a lot quieter than the larger resorts, so lift lines are usually non-existent and on a powder day (which is often!) there’s lots of opportunity for freshies well into the afternoon. A shuttle bus connects all of the resorts. You can easily spend a morning riding freshies at Suginohara and spend the afternoon riding park at Ikenotaira.
Akakura Onsen & Akakura Kanko From our accommodation, you can access the two interlinked resorts of Akakura Onsen & Akakura Kanko. It is a two minute easy walk to the nearest ski lift. These areas offer an excellent variety of beginner, intermediate and advanced groomed and off-piste terrain across the two resorts.
Ikenotaira Home to groomed slopes with rolling terrain, as well as three terrain parks. Suitable for beginner to intermediate riders or if you’re up for hitting the park, it’s suitable for intermediate to advanced riders.
Suginohara With Japan’s longest run at 8.5 km, long wide groomers for carving, a huge terrain park and steep ungroomed slopes at the top of the mountain, Suginohara has some of the best terrain in the area. Suitable for intermediate and advanced riders. Be sure to look out for the Snow Monkeys on the drive to ‘Sugi’.
This secret little gem is not part of the main Myoko Resort and on first glance looks like every other semi-closed down ski resort in Japan. Don’t let this fool you though, this place with it’s unique location often scores 70-100% more snowfall than the other Myoko resorts! The old school double chair and single ‘meat-hook’ chair gains you access to some epic short and steep terrain. Most people attribute their best days in Japan to Seki Onsen, when this place turns on it’s absolutely on!
Our tours can be tailored to suit any level of rider, however to get the most out of the camp we recommend that you can comfortably link turns on intermediate terrain. If you are unsure about your ability level or if this tour is suitable please contact us.
To secure your spot we require a $500 deposit with the balance paid 60 days prior to departure. Group numbers are strictly limited. The tour is subject to Mint Tours terms and conditions.
